Suggested Duration for Museums Route

The suggested duration for this interrail route is 22 or 30 days. This depends on the amount of museums you visit and the duration of your stays in each city. Feel free to change this route anyway you want.

Suggested Route

Note: You should begin this route in the city that more suits to your starting country. In this guide we will start the interrail in Rome.

1st and 2nd days. The first interrail days are usually used for travelling from your country to the first interrail city.

3nd day. You should stay in Rome for at least 3 days, Start your day in Rome by visiting The Roman Coliseum, after, make your way to the The Roman Forum and end your day by visiting the Trajan’s Market.

4rd day. Begin your second day by going to the Sistine Chappel & Vatican Museums. After go to the St. Peters Square and visit St. Peter’s Basilica on your exit go to the Sant’Angelo Castle. If you still have energy visit the fountains nearby.

5th day. Go to The Phanteon, after go to the Piazza di Spagna and climb the Spanish Steps after head to the Trevi Fountain and if you are hungry eat an ice cream.

6th day. Wake up early and take a train to Florence this should take you 1h30. You should stay at least 2 days in Florence. Begin your stay in Florence by visiting the old district and the Uffizi Gallery. Afterwards cross the Ponte Vecchio and head to Pitti Palace.

7th day. Start by going to the Gallerie dell’Accademia after walk to the Piazza del Dumo, visit the Baptisteryand the Florence Cathedral. Afterwards climb the Campanile enjoy the view and take some landscape photos of Florence. Take the night train¹ to Vienna.

8th day. Considering you took the night train you should arrive around 7 and 8 in the morning, Visit the Schonbrunn Palace and it’s garden. Afterwards head to the Stephansplatz and enter in the St. Stephen’s Cathedral. End your day with some sightseeing around Vienna downtown.

9th day. Get off bed early and go to the Hofburg Palace, there you can visit the Imperial Apartments and Sisi Museum. After head to the the train station and get the next train to Budapest, this trip should take you around 3 hours.

10th day.You should stay in Budapest for at least 2 days. In your first day explore Budapest Castle Hill sights and museums. End your day relaxing at Széchenyi thermal bath (don’t forget to take swim suite).

11th day.Begin your second day in Budapest by going to the Terror House and The Great Synagogue. Finish your day with the Parliament building

12th day. This day will be spent going to Berlin, there are several trains options, the journey should take you from 12 to 18 hours.

13th day. You should stay in Berlin for at least 2 days. If you arrive early in Berlin, go the Parliament building in order to avoid queues otherwise save it for the second day, on top enjoy Berlins landscape, after head to the Brandenburg Gate. If you have the energy go by walk to Alexanderplatz and do some sightseeing. End your day by visiting Charlies Checkpoint and some of Berlins Wall.

14th day. Head to the Charlottenburg Palace, after go to Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. In the afternoon go to the Zoo Station and visit the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche, you can also visit Berlins Zoo. Take the night train to Amsterdam.

15th day. Start your day with a canal boat trip, After go and visit Anne Frank House. End your day by visiting the Dam Square.

16th day. Begin your day with Rijksmuseum. After have lunch and take walk at Vondelpark. Finish by visiting Van Gogh Museum.

17th day. Wake up early and take the train to Paris. Start your first day in Paris by visiting the Louvre Museum and if you have time enjoy a small walk in Champs-Élysées.

18th day. If you didn’t visit Champs-Élysées it’s your chance to do it and after go to the Arc-de-Triomphe. For your Afternoon visit the d’Orsay Museum and end your day with the Eiffel Tower.

19th day. Enjoy your last day im Paris begin by visiting the Notre Dame Cathedral, after walk to Centre Pompidou. End your day with Sacre Coeur and Le Moulin Rouge. Take the night train to Barcelona.

20th day. Two days in Barcelona will be enough, go to Church of the Sacred Family, after go to La Pedrera (Casa Milà) and Casa Batllo.

21th day. Begin your day with Palace of Catalan Music and Picasso Museum. End your day by visiting the Magic Fountain.

22th day. Wake up early and take the train to Madrid. After go to Prado Museum and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. And your day with a walk in Parque del Retiro.

23th day. Start with Royal Palace of Madrid to avoid queues. If you are a fan of Real Madrid you can check Bernabeu Stadium Tour. At the end catch the night train to Lisbon.

24th day. Begin your day by visiting Jerónimos Monastery, Monument to the Discoveries and Belem Tower. After go to Park of the Nations and take a walk, after visit the Oceanário.

25th day. Take a ride at tram 28. After take a walk in Baixa (Downtown). Take Santa Justa Elevator and check out the views. Climb your way to St. George’s Castle and visit National Pantheon of Santa Engracia after.

29th and 30th day. The last two interrail days are usually spent returning to your country, if you have some extra money you can return by plane and enjoy the last days however you want.
